The Association for Play Therapy defines play therapy as “the systematic use of a theoretical model to establish an interpersonal process wherein trained Play Therapists use the therapeutic powers of play to help clients prevent or resolve psychosocial difficulties and achieve optimal growth and development.”
How it works
The universal language of children is play. Play therapy utilizes this natural form of communication to support the child and help them address concerns. This is best utilized with children between the ages of 3-12 and most effective when supported by a caregiver at home.
Although many therapists work with children, Registered Play Therapists are specifically trained in how to use play to therapeutically support the needs of children.
